Checking Links
The eleventh commandment of Relational Presentation is...always, always test your links before using the presentation live. Mistakes are inevitable and you don't want to discover them in front of an audience. Go back and systematically click through your presentation to make sure everything is working properly.
Remember that links function only in Slide Show mode. Enter Slide Show mode by one of the following methods:
On the Slide Show menu, select View Show, or
- Click the View Show from Current Slide icon, above the Start button, or
- Press the F5 key on your keyboard (or Shift F5 to start the show from the currently selected slide).
Test all of your links and make note of any that do not function properly or point to an incorrect location.
Don't Forget This Helpful Step
A VERY IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL STEP
- Select Slide 1 (the switchboard) and enter Slide Show mode.
- Click somewhere on the switchboard other than on one of the linked thumbnails.
Notice that the show advances to the Bush quote. This is a problem. If the presenter accidentally misses the picture and instead clicks the surrounding space, she will display the Bush quote rather than the one desired. Prevent this from happening by changing Slide 1's transition setting.
- Exit Slide Show mode (press the ESC key).
- On the Slide Show menu, select Slide Transition.
- Under Advance slide, clear the On mouse click check mark.
- Save your slide show.

By default, PowerPoint slides always advance to the next slide when clicked. Clearing the advance slide check mark prevents accidental advancement. In general, you should always clear this check mark on a slide that serves as a switchboard.
