Setting Up Your Computer

For this lesson, you will need PowerPoint 2003 or 2002 (XP). If this software is already installed, proceed to the next page. Otherwise (or if you are not sure), follow the instructions below.

If you are not sure if PowerPoint is installed or are not sure which version might be installed, click the start button at the bottom left of your screen (Windows).

Hold the mouse cursor over All Programs and look for Microsoft Office. PowerPoint typically is installed as part of the Microsoft Office Suite. If you see Microsoft Office, hold your cursor over it to see a list of the Office software installed. You may see PowerPoint there, along with its version number. Your display might look similar to the picture below. Otherwise, if you don't see Microsoft Office, look for PowerPoint among the other titles. If you don't see PowerPoint somewhere in this section, it probably is not installed and you should obtain the software before proceeding. Likewise, if your PowerPoint version number is 2000 or earlier, you should upgrade before continuing this lesson.
