Downloading Tutorial Course Materials
Now we're ready to get started! Begin by downloading a single, self-executing zip file that contains all the materials needed for this lesson. Save it to your computer's desktop (or anywhere else you prefer). The self-executing zip file name is ChickenResources.exe. If preferred, you can download (alternatively) the identical materials as a regular zip file.
Click here to download the self-executing zip file
Click here to download the regular zip file
When the file is downloaded, double-click it to unzip the contents. You should see a dialog box that looks similar to the following (if using the self-executing file):

You want to extract the file to your desktop. Click the Browse button. The following box should appear:

Click Desktop (above My Computer) and then click OK. Now, back at the original dialog box, click the Unzip button. A folder with the name Chicken Resources should appear on your Desktop.
Inside this folder you will find a folder named Thumbnail Images, a JPEG image named The Chicken Background.jpg, a text document named The Chicken Text.rtf, and the completed version of The Chicken presentation named The Chicken.ppt.
If for any reason the zip file does not download or open properly, all of the materials needed for the lesson are available by individual download below. Try the Zip file first because it will save time. Note: You do not need to download the items below if the zip file downloaded and opened properly. To download, right-click the links and then save.

Opening PowerPoint:

Now open PowerPoint by clicking the start button at the bottom left corner of your screen (Windows). Hold the mouse cursor over All Programs, then Microsoft Office, and then click PowerPoint, or otherwise locate the software as you did on Page 2.
Your view may look similar to the picture below.

Setting Up a Working Strategy:
This Web tutorial is purposefully designed in a narrow format so that you can place a PowerPoint window and these instructions side by side. That way, both are always visible. To place the windows side by side, make your browser window only half the size of your screen. To do so, first click the middle box (see picture below) on the upper right side of the browser window.

Then hold the mouse cursor over the window's border until the cursor changes to opposite-facing arrows. At this point, left-click and drag sideways to resize. Open PowerPoint (if not already open) and likewise resize its window. Place the two half-windows side by side on your screen.
