The Seven Phases of Network Development

When a presentation network is expected to be quite large, perhaps eventually holding many hundreds, or even thousands of slides, the Seven Phases approach featured here is critical. Following this approach is also important if more than one designer or presenter will be involved with, or use, the network.

Designing a comprehensive relational network is similar in many ways to building a large Web site. The process requires careful analysis, planning, and organization BEFORE construction even begins. In other words, you should treat your future network like a multimedia project and manage its development as you would other media-based projects. Failing to do so may result in a haphazard effort that produces poor results and unnecessarily drains resources.

The following pages summarize the steps we follow when overseeing such a project. These steps guide development from beginning to end.
