The Seven Phases of Network Development

Phase 1—Needs Analysis: Numerous questions are contemplated at the beginning of a network project. Team members must gain a sense of the development scope, as well as anticipated design parameters and resources available. Ideally, individuals at all levels of the company or organization are involved in this process, including upper-level management. Topics discussed here ultimately determine how much influence relational methods will exert on overall communication strategy.

Keep in mind also that decisions made in Phase 1 usually are broad at first. They tend to be refined more over time as the remaining phases progress.
